Peanut butter and banana is the one smoothie combination that works hot or cold, but in a blender it turns to paste in the bowl and separates in the glass. Frozen and churned, the two behave completely differently: the banana becomes the body, the peanut butter becomes a ribbon rather than a weight, and the paddle smooths the whole thing into something you can eat with a spoon. This base freezes the standard 24 hours, spins on SMOOTHIE BOWL, and carries twenty-four grams of protein with no protein powder at all. The only real risk is over-thickening, and the respin note solves that with two tablespoons of milk.

Steps
Blend the frozen banana with the Greek yogurt, milk, oat flour, and salt until smooth, then pulse the peanut butter through so it swirls but does not fully homogenize. Stop while the base is still obviously thick enough to hold on a spoon.
Pour into the CREAMi pint up to the max-fill line, level the surface, and freeze upright on a level shelf for the full 24 hours. A smoothie base freezes through faster than a custard, but the level 24-hour freeze is what makes it spin smooth rather than in patches.
- Spin: SMOOTHIE BOWL
Process on SMOOTHIE BOWL. On machines without that program, LITE ICE CREAM gives the same result with this dense peanut butter base.
- Spin: RE-SPIN
Scrape the walls down. If the texture looks dry or too thick to scoop, add 2 tbsp of milk and RE-SPIN once until smooth.
Serve immediately topped with a few banana slices, a sprinkle of flaked salt, and granola for crunch.
If it comes out crumbly: respin
If the first spin comes out too thick to scoop — peanut butter bases freeze firm — scrape the walls, add 2 tbsp of milk, and RE-SPIN once. Add it a spoonful at a time; you want a soft-serve texture, not a drink.
Still icy after the respin? The icy-fix guide has all seven fixes.
Scaling to your machine
For the 24 oz Deluxe tub (NC501), multiply every ingredient by 1.5 and spin on SMOOTHIE BOWL — the Deluxe keeps every program the regular machine has, so use the same one. For Scoop & Swirl (NC701), the same base spins on SMOOTHIE BOWL; SWIRL is unnecessary for a bowl you eat at once.
FAQ
Why churn a smoothie bowl instead of blending it?
Blending frozen banana alone gives you a sandy paste, because the blades cut rather than grind the ice fine. The CREAMi's paddle churns the frozen base into a smooth mass, which is what makes the texture spoonable rather than gritty.
Can I use powdered peanut butter?
Yes, and it cuts the fat substantially — swap 2 tbsp of PB2 in for the peanut butter and add 1 tbsp of oil to the base so it still freezes soft. The flavor is lighter but the protein holds.
Do I need the oats?
The oat flour is there for body, so the bowl does not melt into a puddle the second it hits your table. You can substitute a spoon of flaxseed meal, or leave it out and accept a softer bowl that needs eating promptly.
Can I make this ahead and freeze it?
Freeze the blended base and spin it when you are ready — up to a week. Once it has been churned, though, eat it immediately, because an aerated smoothie bowl collapses within minutes.
